About Amira ISIP

New Mexico’s K-2 Literacy Screening Requirement

Districts are required to screen all K-2 students with a state-approved screener.

  • Universal Screening

New Mexico requires all K-2 students to be screened three times a year for signs of reading difficulties.

  • State-Approved Screener

Amira is one of only two approved English and Spanish screeners, and the only screener that extends to K-8.

  • State-Funded Access

Amira is fully funded by the New Mexico Public Education Department and available at no cost to districts.

The law requires valid, reliable screeners that inform instruction, identify dyslexia risk, and support the state’s MTSS framework.
